L’Oreal Skips Oscars Broadcast

L’Oreal is the latest advertiser to say it’s skipping this year’s Academy Awards on ABC, after tying with Coke as last year’s biggest television advertiser on the broadcast, the New York Post reports. American Express, a longtime sponsor, will air only one spot, yet another sign of big companies scaling back in the face of the weak economy and fearing backlash for lavish spending, the tabloid says. That’s reportedly led ABC to cut the price of a 30-second spot to $1.4 million from last year’s $1.8 million, the paper says.
