The Chicago Tribune says that its unlikely that NBC, or any other network, will ever have another drama like “ER,” which in its heyday generated audiences of almost 50 million a week. Expense is one reason, the paper says. NBC paid a huge license fee to Warner Bros. for “ER.” Next season it will air a cheaper-to-produce talk show starring Jay Leno on weeknights at 10 p.m.
