NBC pages are finding there are fewer chances to advance to assignments on TV shows because of the economy, making the program less likely to produce the next Michael Eisner, Willard Scott or Ted Koppel, the New York Observer says. Some pages are bitter. “Essentially it has been a sort of negative experience,” one former page tells the paper. “I no longer recommend the program to others.” In a statement NBC Universal said 54% of pages got other jobs at the net in 2008.

This article in the Observer was slammed by several current and former pages. As an ambitious young person eager to join the program myself, I feel obligated to send people to read the complete article (and accompanying comments).

Yeah the economy is bad. There are less jobs. Shocker.
This economic climate is actually MORE likely to produce note-worthy page graduates like Mr. Eisner, because only the best, most highly motivated will succeed.
