Some Things Don’t Change in Late Night

As Jimmy Fallon prepares to take over for Conan O’Brien on NBC, touching off a series of late night changes, some things don’t change: most notably that all of the network hosts are white and male, the New York Times notes. “It is puzzling that in an age when viewers have hundreds of after-dinner choices including an Ambien-induced night’s sleep there is even less diversity in late-night network comedy than there was 20 years ago when Arsenio Hall had a syndicated show,” the paper says. Fallon will be backed by The Roots, a house band whole popularity rivals the host’s, the Wall Street Journal says.
