Fox Gets Real About Recession

Fox and Endemol USA are teaming up for “Someone’s Gotta Go,” a recession-era reality concept in which the employees, rather than the boss, determine who gets laid off, TelevisionWeek reports. Each episode of the series will focus on a single troubled small business in which management has already determined that an employee needs to be fired. “They have to get rid of someone,” the publication quotes Mike Darnell, president of alternative at Fox, as saying. “Instead of the boss making an arbitrary decision…the employees decide who goes.”

  1. That is sick, sick, sick. Just when I think that my industry can’t get any lower, it does. These are people’s lives and livelihoods we are talking about. What can be the possible entertainment value in this?
What’s next: the Russian Roulette Show?
I would consider one exception, however: given the latest financial results at News Corp lately, I would guess that Fox Entertainment is due for some layoffs. Let the pilot episode be done at Fox’s offices!
Otherwise, this is bad, bad, bad. Tasteless, cruel.

  2. I don’t know; it sounds pretty ingenious to me. All they need is The Donald to do the firing, and they’ve got a hit.
