Local television stations are suffering during the current economic downturn, with advertisers fleeing as stations lose viewers, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. That’s leading to TV stations firing highly paid anchors, combining jobs and pooling video and other resources, the newspaper says. Ratings for the six top stations in Philadelphia dropped 19 percent between November 2004 and November 2008, with a loss of 140,000 viewers during any part of the day, the publication adds.
