In the latest step in his ongoing legal battle against his former employer, Dan Rather on Monday sued CBS CEO Leslie Moonves and former CBS News President Andrew Heyward, Reuters reports.
The former “CBS Evening News” anchor wants the two reinstated as defendants in his $70 million lawsuit against CBS for what he says was a breach of his contract after he stepped down from the newscast in the wake of his flawed 2004 report on President George W. Bush’s Vietnam-era military record.
In his suit, Rather accused Moonves and Heyward, who has since left the network, of fraud.
CBS is waiting to hear on its appeal to have the original suit thrown out. The company in a statement called the latest lawsuit “more a tiresome plea for attention by Rather than a serious lawsuit.”
