Daytime Emmycast on CW Crashes and Burns in the Ratings, Nosedives From Last-Year’s All-Time Low on ABC

Aug 31, 2009  •  Post A Comment

The overnight ratings are in for the Daytime Emmy broadcast on The CW and they were, in a word, dismal, reports Broadcasting & Cable.

Last night’s broadcast averaged a 0.5 Nielsen rating and 2 share among viewers 18 to 49 from 7-10 p.m. and averaged 2.2 million viewers. It scored a 1.6/3 in households. That’s way down from last year’s record-low performance on ABC, which scored 4.1/8 in households and 5.3 million viewers.

B&C says that as a result of the low numbers, future Daytime Emmy ceremonies might lose TV outlets entirely and become web-only affairs.

  1. Ellen Degeneres Shouldv’e Hosted It!!!! Ellen Got Robbed Big Time!!!!!!!

  2. No wonder, I didn’t even know the show was on this past weekend.

  3. I follow TV and didn’t know they were on…I can only imagine how the core audience was suppose to find out. Channel surfing I guess – I found it that way but I thought it was a re-run at first.

  4. So sad. The CW is not an “event” network, it skews young and most Emmy Casts are viewed by mostly older (25-54+) viewers. No wonder nobody watched the broadcast and yes, I could not agree more, Ellen got robbed! LOL!
In my opinion, Ms. Degeneres’ program is simply still the most creative and fun show in Daytime.
Oprah’s new season should prove to be exciting though….

  5. What the reporter fails to mention is that until CW stepped up to put this show on the air, the Daytime Emmys did not have an exhibition contract with anyone. Those who did see it were “lucky” that they got to see it at all. The broadcasting and cable majors do not want the show so it probably will become a web-only event, but not because the ratings on CW were so “dismal”. Actually those numbers are not so bad for CW. They might want the show again and prove the reporter wrong.

  6. One other point — this CW broadcast was just about the most amateurish effort I’ve seen in many years. Lots of dead air, bizarre cuts from the stage to prerecorded bits, and then of course, ending the broadcast before the final acceptance speeches were given. Who doesn’t realize that awards shows almost always run overtime? While I’m glad CW rescued this event, I was completely shocked at the poor production.

  7. It was expected since the ratings for the soaps were dropping.
It would not have made a difference who hosted the show. they should have advertised.
I never knew it was on until today, and that’s a day late.

  8. To everyone at Associated Television Intenational And The CW And The NATAS-YOU BLEW IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Daytime Emmys Should’ve been hosted by a “DAYTIME STAR”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ellen Degeneres Shouldv’e hosted!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She did not present at the awards!!!!! A friend who was at the awards put it in two words “IT SUCKED”!!!!! They came to see Ellen “ON STAGE” Not Dr.Phil!!!!!!!!! This is the last “DAYTIME EMMY AWARD” show ever!!!!!!!!
