Veronis Suhler Stevenson Predictions: 2009 Broadcast Spending to End Year Down 10%

Overall communications spending this year is likely to be down 1%, the first major decline in four decades, according to the 23rd annual Veronis Suhler Stevenson Communications Industry Forecast to be released today, the New York Times reports.

The private equity firm projects that broadcast television ad spending will be down 10.1% to $43 billion, when 2009 ends, not as bad as for newspapers (down18.7%) or consumer magazines (down 14.8 %).

Mobile ad spending is expected to end the year up 18.1%, although at $1.3 billion it is just a fraction of the broadcast market.
