A Titan Talent Dies: Writer Larry Gelbart, Who Developed ‘M*A*S*H’ For TV, Succumbs to Cancer at Age 81

Larry Gelbart, who developed "M*A*S*H" for TV and wrote the Emmy-winning "Barbarians at the Gate" TV movie for HBO, has died of cancer at age 81.

Gelbart also was nominated for Oscars for writing "Oh God" and co-writing "Tootsie."

Gelbart won Tony Awards for writing the books to the Broadway musical "City of Angels" and co-writing "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum."
