HBO executives weren’t happy that their network was left out of the extensive list of nominated networks featured in the lyrics of the song Neil Patrick Harris sung at the opening of this year’s Emmy Awards, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Company Town blog.
The song was written by Marc Shaiman and Scott Whitman, who were the team behind the hit musical "Hairspray" as well.
The lyrics to "Put Down the Remote” pleaded with viewers to stay tuned to the show. HBO, which had 99 nominations this year, was a noticeable omission from the list of networks plugged.
A CBS spokesman said the network hadn’t heard of any complaints from HBO.
One reason HBO may have been left out, of course, is that it’s not TV. It’s HBO.
