Abdul-Jawad, a 32-year-old divorced Saudi father of four who went on a Lebanese Broadcasting Corp. program to talk about his sexual exploits, was sentenced to five years in jail and 1,000 lashes, but was spared the death penalty, Reuters reports.

He was arrested in August after discussing his premarital sexual encounters and how he picked up women using his mobile phone, and showing sex toys on an episode of “In Bold Red.” Three friends who appeared with him got two years in jail and 300 lashes each.

  1. There are two main imperatives for most living creatures…one is to stay alive and the other is to procreate. Sex is a natural, healthy activity for humans and we have the added bonus of being able to understand and to enhance the activity.
It is understandable in a civil society, for various reasons, to try and curtail wanton expression or undesired advances but unilateral suppression of this basic mammalian function by way of some arcane, dogmatic ethos can and will lead to all manners of psychosis.
I’ve only heard a few people talk about this phenomenon as a possible contributor for some of the extreme behavior we see, especially among males, coming from certain countries in this region. The concept warrants more investigation.
Personally, I think that a person who has a loving and sensuous relationship with another…would think very hard before walking the path of nihilism.
