ABC Has Good Night with ‘American Music Awards;’ Viewers Protest Adam Lambert’s Performance

Scoring the best rating since 2004, ABC’s broadcast of the “American Music Awards” pulled a 5.5 preliminary adults 18-49 rating, but it was still second to NBC’s NFL match, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

“American Idol” runner-up Adam Lambert’s performance on the awards show wasn’t to some viewers’ liking, however, and the network has received more than 1,500 complaints, reports the Associated Press. The network said that the response was "moderate," but message boards indicate that many viewers were outraged by the pseudo-sexual antics, including Lambert touching his crotch and kissing a man.

Meanwhile, NBC’s NFL match between the Chicago Bears and the Philadelphia Eagles claimed a 5.6 rating in the demo.

Am experimental CBS schedule flip to give "Cold Case" the 9 p.m. slot and "Three Rivers" the 10 p.m. spot was skewed by an earlier NFL overrun. Overall, the earlier showing for "Cold Case" earned a 2.0, off by a tenth from last week’s show, while "Three Rivers" equaled its worst performance of the season, a 1.6.

  1. “Pseudo sexual?”
He actively grabbed the costume of a female dancer in the vaginal area while her legs were spread above him.
Had he not been widely known to be gay there is no way ABC would have let the performance on the air.

  2. I thought the whole show was pretty raunchy as far as the acts go. Lady Gaga’s dancers outfits were totally see through in the butt area, half the ladies don’t wear pants anymore, Rhihanna had on an outfit that consisted of strips of fabric & skin…you could see her entire underboob. And to top it off, I couldn’t even listen to Eminem due to the massive bleeping going on during the performance. Gave up and fast forwarded. It has gotten completely ridiculous! Don’t get me started on Adam’s scream fest. Loved him on AI, but after that screeching, my ears started bleeding. WIll NOT be watching next year’s AMAs…which is sad since I’ve watched them since I was a kid in the 80s.

  3. I say get over it. Good lord Men and women do it to one another. Why is it so bad when two men do it?
    Some people are just nuts.
Married couples do more in front of their kids than this!

  4. It is bad when any of it is on TV. You guys used to talk about “staying out of people’s bedrooms”. Well for crying out loud, keep it in your bedroom! I’m sick having everyone’s sexual fantasies blatantly plastered on the TV and every where else, whether the viewers want to see it or not! What ever happened to good taste!

  5. I agree that the whole show was ridiculously sleazy and I don’t consider myself to be sensitive to that stuff. What happened to great musicians and singers just performing without all of the bad costumes and lame attempts to be avent-garde. Let’s push the boundaries in music and not turn the industry into one gross display after another. Adam Lambert is just one symptom of what is wrong with music today. If you turn off the visual he’s just a bad lounge singer.

  6. I rather doubt kids see their parents doing the acts Adam did. Yes, times have changed on TV, but class acts use their TALENT to advance their careers, not shock value. Adam is 100% shock value at this point.

  7. Philadelphia Eagles is a good team,I like it.

  8. Pittsburg Steelers jerseys is very beautiful.
