Adam Lambert Says He Got Carried Away at AMAs

Nov 25, 2009  •  Post A Comment

Adam Lambert said he got “carried away” with his racy routine at the American Music Awards Sunday, but he didn’t apologize in an interview Wednesday morning on CBS’ “The Early Show,” Gawker reports.

The simulated sex act that was in his routine and drew complaints to ABC wasn’t part of the rehearsal, Lambert said, adding that it "kind of came from a more impromptu place. ABC was taken a little by surprise."

Still, he said, “I’m not a babysitter. I’m a performer." He said the complaints came “because I’m a gay male," noting that, "If it had been a female performer doing those things up on the stage I don’t think there would be nearly as much outrage."

  1. Just proves the right person won American Idol. This guy is a self serving narcissist. To say he was just promoting artistic “expression” on a show watched by a largely family audience is irresponsible.
And I’m so sick of “Oh, it’s only because I’m gay”. Sorry Lambert, it’s because you are an idiot, not gay.

  3. Read: “I got enough complaints that my management felt I needed to offer some type of ‘apology’ for my press-generating antics, so I ‘apologize’ for ‘going too far.'”

  4. Since when is the last performance on the AMA award show a time for “family” viewing? It’s sickening to hear about protecting “families” from the likes of those damned gays. Most families have someone gay in them, and, besides, Adam Lambert is very much “family” 🙂

  5. I watched the AMA show last Sunday and found it very entertaining. At times I may not have agreed with who won an award (I have my favorites), but thought the show was well done. I actually looked forward to seeing Adam Lambert perform, maybe didn’t expect such a racey production, but then again not shocked due to alot of other shocking and sexual videos I’ve seen out there. I think that because it was on ABC not MTV was a big issue with lots of negative reactions. I like Adam’s voice and range, and will hear more from him in the future.
