For many years it was thought that a halo effect for "The Oprah WInfrey Show" delivered a significant audience to ABC’s national evening newscast.

Was it ever true?

What about today?

  1. OH, Please! ABC News has never had to rely on clinging to Oprah’s apron strings.
Sure, she will be missed by her vast audience and any affiliate that has profited by airing her show, but let’s not go overboard.
ABC News WILL suffer from the lack of CHARLIE in a few weeks. Diane is NOT a good choice to replace him. She is good where she is, but not anchoring ABC’s, (or any other) Evening News.
I can’t think of anyone currently in the ABC group who should take Gibson’s place. George is not an anchor, but great for reports and THIS WEEK.
They will have to do some quick and thorough shopping for, since the untimely passing of Peter Jennings, Charlie has been their savior and great at what he does. Sawyer will not cut it and should never have been considered. They had better be well into looking.
