Richard and Mayumi Heene, the reality-TV-obsessed parents of six-year-old Falcon ‘Balloon Boy’ Heene have been sentenced to jail for the stunt, the Associated Press reports.

Richard Heene was sentenced to 90 days in jail, Mayumi 20 days. Furthermore, according to the report, the couple were "given strict probation conditions that forbid them from earning any money from the spectacle for four years."

On Oct. 15 the Heene’s received worldwide TV attention when they reported that Falcon had drifted away on a homemade balloon device. It turned out to be a hoax.

The prosecutor in the case, Chief Deputy District Attorney Andrew Lewis, who represents the Fort Collins, CO, area where the event happened, "portrayed the Heenes as growing increasingly desperate as their pitches for a reality TV show kept getting turned down by networks – and the family fell deeper into a financial hole," the AP said.
