New Survey: Guess Which Medium is Teenagers’ Favorite?

Dec 14, 2009  •  Post A Comment

A new study of European teens’ media habits shows that what they really like to spend time with is out of sync with what the common wisdom thinks their habits are, the New York Times reports.

Contrary to popular opinion, European teens are watching more traditional television than spending time with video games, music or the Internet, the study by the research firm Forrester found.

The study put teen viewing time at 10.3 hours a week, on average, compared to 9.1 hours of personal Internet use (excluding work and school.) And 12- to 17-year-old Europeans spend less personal time on the Internet than those 18 and older.

Teens, the study found, also like to multitask, by watching TV while mobile texting, say.

  1. European teens also enjoy techno music, so I question drawing many comparisons to American youth. And let’s not get giddy over how well old media are still doing, when the score is 10-9. Plenty of time of the clock for new media to prevail.

  2. You make blogging look like a walk in the park! I’ve been trying to blog daily but I just cant find writing material.. you’re an inspiration to me and i’m sure many others!
