Univision to Start Studio Division to Produce Telenovelas

Dec 7, 2009  •  Post A Comment

Spanish-language Univision is starting a studio division and has hired Luis Fernández, from Spain’s RTVE, to run it, the New York Times reports.

The network hopes to produce and own more of its key programs, including the popular nighttime telenovela soaps, which it has traditionally acquired from Mexico’s Televisa. Dramas and reality shows will also be developed.

Univision already produces some of its variety shows and game shows, as well as its news, from Miami.
