AT&T Drops Tiger Woods; Fox News’ Brit Hume Says Tiger, Who Practices Buddhism, Needs to Find Another Religion to Recover From Scandal

Jan 4, 2010  •  Post A Comment

AT&T is the latest company to end its sponsorship of golfer Tiger Woods, the New York Times reports.

The company said it wished him well in the future. Woods is taking an “indefinite break” from the sport after acknowledging marital infidelity. Accenture also cut ties with him, and other companies have cut back marketing campaigns with him. Nike, however, has continued to stand by him.

Meanwhile, Fox News analyst and former anchor Brit Hume on “Fox News Sunday” counseled Woods, who has said he practices Buddhism, to “turn to Christianity,” the Huffington Post reports.
"The extent to which he can recover seems to me depends on his faith," Hume said, according to HuffPo. "He is said to be a Buddhist. I don’t think that faith offers the kind of forgiveness and redemption that is offered by the Christian faith. My message to Tiger would, ‘Tiger, turn to the Christian faith and you can make a total recovery and be a great example to the world."

  1. I think Brit Hume needs to find a less public line of work.

  2. So if you’re a christian you can get away with anything because you will ultimately be forgiven?!? what kind of lesson does that teach? a man can be from any religious faith and still be a bad husband.

  3. By all means, switch to Christianity. After all it kept the govenor of SC and a senator from Nevada from fooling around. Even folks who had “direct ties” to God like Jim Baker and Jimmy Swaggert were kept from straying. Oh yeah and the mega-church preacher that was diddling with men while smoking crack.
Britt, I know you work for the crusader network but think about it. A 30 something guy that’s nearly a billionaire and reasonably good looking has to be careful not to get slapped with assault charges because he has to beat women off with clubs, so he chose a peaceful religion like Buddhism. Oh course he picks from the “variety pack” he was pretty much kept away from women growing up because he was always an the course with his Dad. Now he’s making up (and then some) for lost opportunities.

  4. I think that Brit needs to mind his own business when it comes to religion. Just because his faith works for him doesn’t mean that it will work for anyone else.

  5. Who says comedy on TV is dead?

  6. Christianity is not a get-out-of-jail free card, it’s redemption and forgiveness at the highest cost.
Once accepted, does it mean that we’ll never transgress again? No, we’re still human and still make mistakes, follow lustly desires, malign our fellow man… (if sin weren’t so attractive, no one would imbibe) but those truly following Christ will sincerely seek forgiveness and try again – thankfully His mercies are new every morning as I make mistakes constantly!
