Report: Conan Can Turn to Fox

Jan 8, 2010  •  Post A Comment

Fox is interested in providing a home for Conan O’Brien’s latenight talk show should he decide to depart NBC, according to Josef Adalian at TheWrap.com.

It is not known whether O’Brien, whose "Tonight Show" is being reassigned to 12:05 p.m. weeknights to allow former "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno to return to the plum 11:35 berth, will stay with the network.

Adalian quoted a Fox network source as saying, "We’ve always been interested in late night and we’re always looking to bring great new talent to Fox," and adding that O’Brien "would be a great fit," though cautioning that the comic is "still under contract with NBC."

  1. Contract, schmontract. That’s what shredders are for. Jump, Conan! Fox is a MUCH better fit for you!

  2. I hope Conan opts out. NBC would be getting just what they deserve, Conan would likely get to OWN a show with FOX (as “Letterman” was able to do after fleeing NBC in 1993) and as it should have always been — Jay would get “The Tonight Show” back.

  3. I can’t believe NBC would move Conan so quickly because Jay Leno’s ratings aren’t high enough. I thought Jay Leno made the decision years ago to retire from the Tonight Show and selected Conan to host. Does he really need to take the Tonight Show back? I know if he does, I WILL not watch it and WILL follow Conan on whatever network he chooses to go to. How sad Conan just relocated his family to LA for this…

  4. Nancy – Jay did not make the decision to retire from the Tonight Show – it was made for him. The whole process dating back to 2004 has been handled HORRIBLY. Jeff Zucker should be FIRED. Pay me a fraction of his salary and I could do the job better!

  5. Jay agreed to leave “Tonight” in 2004. Why did he not fight for it back then? He got “Zuckered” in to believing that the network would look out for his best interests after “Tonight” was over. To me he should have told the network to go and “f” themselves and accepted a deal with ABC or FOX who are probably no longer interested in his services.
Can he reclaim the 11:35 crown if Conan departs? My feeling is no way because of the public’s perception of what a snake he is. To supplant Conan will deprive Jay of his likability factor.
If I were Jay, and thankfully I am not, I would depart the scene gracefully and go elsewhere. But this is Hollyweird that we are talking about….
