TV Producer David Gerber Dead at 86

Longtime TV producer and studio executive David Gerber, 86, died Saturday in Los Angeles, according to The Hollywood Reporter

Gerber, whose stints as an executive included Columbia Pictures Television in the late 1970s and MGM Television from 1986-92, was involved in the production such series as "Police Story," "Batman," "Room 222," "thirtysomething," "In the Heat of the Night" and numerous TV movies.

Gerber was the recipient of Emmy, Golden Globe, Peabody and Christopher awards.

  1. Being a Producer/Director, I would have rather known David professionally, but I got to know him through my late wife Penny Tyner, who was David’s right hand high atop the Thalberg building at MGM pre-Turner Days.
    I had worked with his wife Loraine, who starred in an Alan Factor-John Newland pilot I Exec’d in the 70’s.
    David was a class act, and so too his Loraine, whom he adored.
    My best thoughts for Loraine.
    The industry has lost one of it’s giants. Rest in Peace, David…you earned it.
