Cowell Wants Internet Service Providers to Cut Off Users Who Continually Download Content Illegally

Music producer and "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell is urging British parliament to adopt tougher anti-digital piracy efforts, including a rule to punish chronic offenders, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Cowell was one of the signers of a letter to Parliament lobbying for a “three-strikes” rule against those who keep downloading illegally, which would allow Internet Service Providers that they could cut off users who repeatedly download content illegally.  Other signers included Working Title co-chair Tim Bevan, Paul Greengrass, the director of "United 93," and author Terry Pratchett.

Among those fighting the proposals are Internet service providers including Virgin Media and Carphone Warehouse, THR says.
