The shift to 9 p.m. on Wednesday night didn’t slow down the juggernaut of Fox’s "American Idol," which scored a 7.7 in the 18-49 demo, making it the top show of the night, according to TVbythenumbers.com.

In the 8-9 p.m. hour, CBS’ special about "Super Bowl’s Greatest Commercials" was No. 1 with a 2.9 in the demo, ahead of Fox’s "Human Target" with a 2.4 and a new NBC installment of "Mercy" with a 1.6. However, in the second half of the hour, at 8:30, a new episode of ABC’s "The Middle" jumped into second place with a 2.7 rating.

"Idol" was dominant from 9-10 p.m. with that 7.7, but CBS’ "Criminal Minds" had a solid 3.8 in the 18-49 demo, while ABC’s "Modern Family" and "Cougar Town" brought in a 3.9 and 2.9, respectively. CW’s "Gossip Girl" eeked out a 0.2.

The 10 p.m. hour went to CBS’ "CSI: NY" with a 3.4 in the 18-49 rating. ABC’s "Ugly Betty" managed a 1.5, which was ahead of NBC’s "The Jay Leno Show" at a 1.2.
