Super Bowl Sets Another Record—for Clutter

Feb 9, 2010  •  Post A Comment

The Super Bowl had the most viewers of any TV event ever, but it also set another record, for the ad clutter,  the Associated Press reports.

Commercials accounted for about 48 minutes of the game, which was almost three minutes longer than last year, which was the previous record, research firm Kantar Media said. There was more than the usual number of 15-second ads, as well.

  1. Honestly, it didn’t seem that cluttered. I was impressed that the network didn’t go to a break after the Saints first 3 and out. Just try watching a weekend movie on AMC and you’ll witness clutter.

  2. Dan, spot on! Robbie

  3. I concur. I don’t watch a lot of AMC (other than when they’re airing new episodes of ‘Breaking Bad,’) but last week I recorded a late night airing of ‘Return of the Living Dead’ for my daughter, and there was literally six minutes of commercials after every seven minutes of movie for the last 2/3 of the film. It was absolutely the very definition of “clutter!!”

  4. If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.
