The return of ABC’s "Dancing With The Stars" was a rousing success in the ratings Monday night for ABC, reports TVbythenumbers.com. It was the most-watched season premiere of the popular series, and the second most-watched in the 18-49 demo.

At eight o’clock "Dancing" started off with a 5.9 rating in the 18-49 demo, better than CBS’s "How I Met Your Mother" and "Rules of Engagement" with a 3.5 and 3.3 rating in 18-49-year-olds, respectively. NBC’s "Chuck" managed a 1.9 rating, ahead of CW’s "Life Unexpected" getting a 0.9.

From 9 pm–10pm, "Dancing" surged up to 6.9 rating in the 18-49 demo, more than CBS’s "Two and a Half Men" and "The Big Bang Theory" with a 5.0 and a 5.2, respectively, in that demographic. Fox’s "24" was third with a 2.7, while NBC’s "Trauma" had a 1.5 and CW’s "Gossip Girl" only a 0.9 in the 18-49.
