ABC May Pull N.Y. Signal from Cablevision on Eve of Academy Awards

Mar 2, 2010  •  Post A Comment

ABC appears to be playing a serious game of chicken with New York-area cable operator Cablevision, saying that it may pull the signal to its owned New York station, WABC-TV, at 12:01 Sunday, the same day that the network is scheduled to air the Academy Awards, B&C reports.

ABC wants Cablevision to pay more for the channel, and says it has negotiated without success for two years. The station noted that viewers can watch ABC over the air for free if Cablevision decides not to pay. Cablevision responded in a statement that “it is shocking” that ABC is demanding an extra $40 million “in these difficult economic times,” calling the retransmission consent fee request “what amounts to a new TV tax.”

  1. Without cable, I can watch ABC TV at no charge at all. Why does ABC charge Cablevision anything?? Isn’t that what advertising is for???

  2. My bro told me about this site just today. Great blog you’ve got!
