Broadcasters Could Face Fee for Not Giving Back Spectrum

Mar 14, 2010  •  Post A Comment

Broadcasters who choose not to give back some of their spectrum to the government for broadband use could end up paying a fee, according to a copy of the FCC’s proposed national broadband plan, according to B&C.

In the article, B&C’s reporter said that copy of the plan was read to him.

The plan calls for expanded incentives to get broadcasters to give up spectrum, by paying those who give it up voluntarily, and on the flip side, by imposing “spectrum fees” on those who decline. The fees could apply to government users of spectrum, as well. The plan is to be officially released this week.
