It’s Our Annual Public Service Message–Folks, People ARE Watching You if You’re on TV: Couple Who Bragged About Shoplifting on ‘Dr. Phil’ Get Federal Prison

A couple who went on "Dr. Phil" to get financial help and ended up talking about how they made $100,000 selling shoplifted Legos on eBay got federal prison sentences on Monday, the Associated Press reports.

Matthew Eaton got 27 months in prison and his wife Laura Eaton was sentenced to a year. It was their appearance on “Dr. Phil” about 18 months ago that tipped authorities to the extent of their thievery.

The judge who sentenced the Eatons also had some tough words for show host Phil McGraw, saying "What a charlatan this man is." The Eatons’ attorney told the judge that the couple had originally contacted McGraw’s show in hopes of getting help with their financial situation, but didn’t succeed. "He certainly didn’t help you," the judge told them.
