LA-Based Location Filming Rebound Versus First Quarter Last Year

Mar 31, 2010  •  Post A Comment

Workers in the California-based film and television production industry have struggled as of late as a writers strike, an economic downturn and emigrating jobs have put a pinch on area work.

However, the industry is regaining its footing somewhat as Los Angeles on-location commercial, film and television filming grew 25% in 2010’s first quarter versus the same time last year, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Commercials were the highest of the group, improving 60% in production days versus last year. Television production saw a 19% growth, spurred by a larger pilot season and studios’ willingness to resume filming on-location. Those pilots include NBC’s reboot of "The Rockford Files," and Fox’s "Traffic Light."

The Times notes, though, that the production stats remain well below where they were in 2007.
