Multi-season Fox Comedy Gets Its ‘Death’ Notice

Fox is clearing out some of its programming underbrush, as a four-season old Fox sitcom received its cancellation notice, TheWrap reports.

"’Til Death," starring Brad Garrett, has gotten the ax, with Fox confirming the cancellation today. Poor ratings is the cause of "Death’s" death.

"After year two, when you’re getting beat by Telemundo, it’s time to go home," Garrett said. "I mean, even the show my housekeeper watches was beating the show that was paying her salary. I’d come in the room, and she’d quickly turn off Telemundo."

"Death" was rumored to be dead last season, until a last-minute deal between Sony and Fox kept the show with a pulse.  The main reason for the last-minute renewal was due to the show nearing the syndication threshold.

"Death" still has 14 episodes to air.

  1. This show had the chance to be good, but it dug its own grave. I thought they should have retained the neighbors from the first season, as they had the potential to be the start of a good ensemble. It could have been a latter-day “Honeymooners” with a vibrant story arc in the school. But, they wrote them out, brought in JB Smoove, then lost him, and they’ve had a parade of different characters in and out (including a change in the actress playing the daughter). If that weren’t enough to confuse anyone, they’ve played the remaining episodes completely out of order this year. There is not zero continuity, there is negative continuity! Finally, the plot device whereby the son-in-law is convinced he’s really in a sitcom actually works, very Allen-esque; I hope to see that played out in the remaining episodes. RIP, ‘Til Death.

  2. Telemundo is funnier than Til Death…
