Oscar Powers That Be Don’t Apologize for Leaving Farrah Out of the Memoriam

The morning after criticism of ABC’s broadcast of the Academy Awards has included a question about why Farrah Fawcett, who died the same day as Michael Jackson, was excluded from the In Memoriam montage, while Jackson was included, E! Online reports.

Leslie Unger, spokesperson for the Academy, today said that Farrah had been left out because she was deemed more of a TV personality, although as E! Online reported in their story, Fawcett made more films than Jackson.

Unger said, "In any given year there will always be some people that other people think should have been included and that there’s more justification for one person versus another. It is impossible to include everybody."

  1. WTF, I’ve made more films than Mickey Jackson!!!

  2. It’s still a HUGE omission, considering they died within hours of each other, more or less.

  3. and they also left off Bea Arthur! She was in Mame, for chrissakes! Not sure what they were thinking leaving off Farrah and Bea!

  4. Farrah even received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama in 1987 for Extremities. Makes no sense to exclude her.

  5. Their rationale is ridiculous. The Memoriam should be as long as it needs to be to honor everyone who passed on.
If they are worried about time then they should just drop the whole thing instead of omitting people “deemed a TV personality”.
Why can’t they just say they messed up?
