Jamie Foxx, who won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Ray Charles in the movie "Ray," is co-writing the script of the movie version of a TV classic, TV Guide reports.

Garry Marshall told TV Guide that he is working on the script of the big screen version of "Laverne and Shirley" with Foxx.

Marshall was the creator of the original show. He said the idea for the film version is both modern and urban, with Laverne and Shirley as much tougher ladies. Marshall explained, “Jamie and I are trying to do it. …It’s a whole different modern day take on how they came up on the streets during difficult times. Laverne would be this very tough girl with a big ‘L’ tattooed on her arm.  Jennifer Garner would play Laverne and Jessica Biel would play Shirley.”

Biel and Garner’s interest in the project has been previously reported.

  2. This take on the classic series sounds bad. Not even sure the L&S concept can be turned into a movie successfully.
