One of TV’s Best-Known, Well-Respected Journalists Being Wooed To Come To ABC To Host Sunday’s ‘This Week’

Can you guess this one? One of TV’s best-known, well-respected jourrnalists is being courted to come to ABC to take over the hosting chores on the network’s influential Sunday morning inside-the-beltway program "This Week."

It’s CNN’s longtime foreign correspondent Christiane Amanpour. She has  told colleagues that ABC News has offered her the job, Media Bistro’s FishbowlDC reports.

Furthermore, according to the report, Amanpour has told her colleagures that there’s a 50 percent chance she’ll take the job. The prior host of "This Week," George Stephanopoulos, moved to “Good Morning America.”

The report also said, "If she takes the post, sources say this would be a complete remaking on the show, a program much more focused on international affairs. What’s more, Amanpour is telling colleagues that she does not wish to move to Washington, D.C., that she’d prefer to remain in New York and travel for the job should she decide to take it."

Neither network would comment directly on the report to Fishbowl.

  1. I am not sure that this would be the right move for ABC. It sounds as if a “complete makeover” and the fact that she “doesn’t want to move to DC” means that “this week” will no longer be a political talk show. Which I think would be a travesty considering their history of excellence. If she takes over it will be the “Christine Amanpour Show” and not “this week”
Also, I question the complete makeover of the show since they have been dominating their chief competitor (meet the press) since the death of Tim Russert. This Week has the best panel of the two shows by far (George Will, Paul Krugman etc) and it would be a shame to not include them in the show.
In truth, Stephanopoulos should have not been moved to GMA..
