Sony Corp. said its 3D TV sets will go on the market beginning in June, with four models priced from $3,200 to $6,400, the Associated Press reports.

Panasonic begins selling its latest 3D TV sets tomorrow, Wed., March 10, and, under a joint promotion, "Best Buy will set up special sections at its retail outlets, where prospective customers can try out Panasonic’s 3D TVs," according to Reuters

Panasonic said it expects to sell a 50-inch 3D-capable TV for $2,500.

Both the Sony and Panasonic sets will require viewers to wear glasses to get a 3D effect.

Sony said it’s goal is to convert 10 percent of its buyers next year to 3D units.

Panasonic, Reuters says, "aims to sell 500,000 3D TVs in the United States in the first year of their launch, half its annual global sales target."

  1. Big deal, I’m going to shell out big bucks for a Panasonic or Sony when they don’t offer ‘clip-on’s’ for those of us who wear glasses. Perhaps they should do research on a tv set where the 3D action takes place inside the set like an old ‘viewmaster’ and does not require wearing glasses of any type…that I’d look at seriously!
