Comcast, US Olympic Committee Scrap Deal to Create Olympic Network

Apr 22, 2010  •  Post A Comment

Comcast and the United States Olympic Committee have scrapped last year’s agreement to create an Olympic channel, the Sports Business Daily reports.

The dissolution ends the USOC’s nearly four-year attempt at starting its own television channel, which was supposed to have debuted after the Vancouver games.

But the USOC and Comcast hadn’t worked on the plan since August partly because of Comcast’s pending merger with NBCU, which has its own Olympic-focused network with Universal Sports. The International Olympic Committee also put a damper on the plans, when an IOC member criticized the deal and called the USOC "arrogant" for wanting to create a network without IOC approval.
