Fox Passes on ‘Doctor Who’ Spinoff Remake

Fans of the "Doctor Who" series are either disappointed or relieved as Fox and BBC Worldwide have passed on bringing a localized version of the series’ spinoff, "Torchwood," to the U.S. network, the Hollywood Reporter says.

“BBC Worldwide Productions and the FOX Broadcasting Company have mutually agreed not to progress together with a 13-episode serialized ‘Torchwood’ format," said BBC Worldwide. "We are currently in discussion with several interested networks.”

BBC Worldwide is still looking to bring "Torchwood" stateside, but an executive with the BBC said the original franchise, "Doctor Who," isn’t making the jump right now, which may be an even bigger relief for "Who" fans.
