‘Idol Gives Back’ Raises Big Money for Multiple Charities

The preliminary tally is in and Fox’s charity event, "Idol Gives Back" brought in nearly $45 million, the show announced today.

Charities including the Children’s Health Fund, Feeding America, Malaria No More, Save the Children’s U.S. Programs and the United Nations Foundation, will all receive donations from the money raised on Wednesday night’s broadcast.

Still to be counted in the final results are the funds being collected on the iTunes store from performances connected to the show.

In a statement, Simon Fuller, creator of "American Idol" said, “Once again, I am overwhelmed by the generosity of the ‘American Idol’ viewers, our sponsors and our special benefactors. I am so thankful to all of the celebrity guests and performers who appeared Wednesday night to support ‘Idol Gives Back.’”
