Myles Wilder, a two-time Emmy nominee for his writing on the 1960s hit "McHale’s Navy," died on April 20 from complications of diverticulitis, reports The Hollywood Reporter. He was 77.

Wilder was the son of 1950s film noir director W. Lee Wilder and a nephew of writer and director Billy Wilder. He wrote 28 episodes for ABC’s "McHale’s Navy" and wrote 26 episodes and produced CBS’ "The Dukes of Hazzard." His other writing credits included a slew of hit TV shows, ranging from "The Brady Bunch" to "My Three Sons."

Wilder was also in charge of daytime TV for the Hanna-Barbera Studios, where he oversaw shows such as "Inch High, Private Eye," and worked for Disney developing movies.

Wilder retired in 1989 and five years later moved to Temecula, Calif., where he raised avocados. He’s survived by his wife, Bobbe; their daughter, Kimberly, and her husband Brynley; grandchildren Olivia and Morgan; and godson Matthew McGinnis.

  1. The Producer of Dukes of Hazzard dies and the Headline is Writer for McHale’s Navy?

  2. Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.
