Iconic television star Leonard Nimoy, best known as the "Star Trek" character Mr. Spock, has decided to retire from acting after completing his story arc on Fox’s "Fringe," reports the Toronto Sun.

Nimoy, who appeared in the "Star Trek" feature film in 2009, also declared he will not be in the sequel to that movie.

“I’ve been doing this professionally for 60 years. I love the idea of going out on a positive note. I’ve had a great, great time," said Nimoy.

In addition to acting, the 79-year-old Nimoy has also been a successful director, including the credits "Three Men and a Baby" and "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home."
