Survey Says: More Democrats Watch TV Overall, More Republicans Watch Sports

Democrats watch more TV in general, but Republicans are more heavily into watching sports.

So says a new study by National Media Inc. We know about it through the reporting of our former colleague James Hibberd, who has written about it on his Live Feed blog at the site of The Hollywood Reporter.

According to the report, "The survey, from National Media Inc. using data from Nielsen and Arbitron, concludes that media buyers looking to target conservative viewers should dedicate ad dollars to sports telecasts — particularly, the PGA Tour, college football and NASCAR. Of the 26 sports surveyed, 14 skewed Republican."

The article also notes that " ‘The average TV show will deliver 15-25% more Democrats compared to Republicans,’ said Will Feltus, senior vp of research at National Media, which specializes in buying ads for GOP clients. ‘The moral to the story is that it’s harder to find Republican viewers and sports is good place to find them.’ "

  1. No surprise. TV shows are mostly written by left-leaning Hollywood writers, who subtly inject their values and predispositions. Democrats don’t even notice, no more than a fish notices all the water.
