The story of how Johnny Carson came to "The Tonight Show" following in Jack Paar and Steve Allen’s shoes is soon going to be coming to television as a miniseries, reports Deadline.com.

Based on Robert Metz’s 1980 book, "The Tonight Show," Producers Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road and Kevin J. Cleary of Content House are developing the series and calling it "The King of Late Night."

The producers envision the miniseries as a combination Rat Pack and "Mad Men" style look at television in the 1960’s. Cleary referred to the project as "The Rat Pack version of ‘The Late Shift.’"
