Conan O’Brien, away from the TV cameras, has turned his attention to even smaller screens, the New York Times reports.
The former host of "The Tonight Show" has developed a savvy Web strategy and tapped Twitter to help him sell out of his 30-city comedy tour.
But the big question may be whether his substantial online fan base will help him in contract negotiations with Fox, which is in "extensive talks" with O’Brien for a late-night show. O’Brien happened upon the strength of the Web around the time NBC came up with the plan to move "The Tonight Show" to 12:05 a.m.
His producers noticed he was gaining new viewers and believed they were coming from online. In late February, O’Brien signed up for Twitter and gained media coverage when he decided to follow just one person, Sarah Killen of Michigan. NBC, whose executives are reading his tweets, has decided to not block him from using Twitter, the newspaper says.
