Former Us Weekly Editor Janice Min Joins Venerable Hollwood Trade Publication

In what the New York Times’ Media Decoder blog calls "a surprising move," former Us Weekly editor Janice Min has joined one of the oldest Hollywood trade publications at its editorial director.

Min is now employed by The Hollywood Reporter. After an apparent failure to agree to contractual terms, Min left Us Weekly last year.

The trade publication was recently bought by e5 Global Media, which owns other trade publication such as AdWeek and Billboard and is lead by former Conde Nast executive Richard Beckman.

Min said she wants to revive reporting on the industry, calling the current coverage "a bit dry" and, using a baseball analogy, said "let’s say you’re covering baseball and you’re just giving stats and scores, but you’re not actually discussing the game in any way."

One industry observer told TVWeek that he wonders if Beckman wants to broaden the Reporter so it will appeal to both a trade and consumer audience.

Min, who will relocate to Los Angeles, told Media Decoder that THR will continue to focus on the business side of Hollywood, adding,  " ‘But you have to look at the business side as one that’s filled with personalities and its own kind of intrigue. Part of the parlor game in the industry is one of, basically, who’s up, who’s down — so I think it’s only natural that there will be some personalities featured in the coverage, but it’s certainly not going to be, ‘Guess what Lindsay Lohan wore today.’”

  1. It could be that Sanchez was quite frankly green with envy that your War Criminals from the governing administration would not call him “invaluable”. That kind of rejection can potentially impact.

  2. Nice!! Great Ifo. Great People. Great Blog. Thank you for all the great sharing that is being done here.
