Gaga Can’t Gag ‘Idol’ Ratings from Gnawing Away

A live performance from Lady Gaga on Wednesday failed to stop a ratings slide for "American Idol," with the program drawing its lowest-rated Wednesday night audience since 2002, theNew York Times reports.

The program drew 19.1 million viewers, which despite its low number for ‘Idol,’ was a large enough audience to place the show and Fox as the winners for the night.

But there are other indications people may be growing tired of the singing competition. The New York Post reports that Gambling911.com, which tracks reality-show odds as a sideline to its main business of tracking online sports betting odds, is going to stop carrying "Idol" odds because  interest has sharply fallen off.

  1. Any real surprise? The show has been alledged to have ‘adjusted’ some of the voting tallys, in one case where the real winner was reported to be forced to second place, and well simply, people are getting bored with the concept. Simon Cowel jumping off the series at this point is good timing for him.

  2. This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
