Art Linkletter, host of "House Party" and "People Are Funny" throughout the 1950s and 1960s, died today in Los Angeles at the age of 97, the AP reports.

Linkletter was known for interviewing ordinary people with the ability to draw big laughs out of the interviews. One of "House Party’s" famous segments included interviews with children.

  1. One of the last of the great innovative pioneers of early television. He understood the key facet of what has become reality television today. He let the average person tell tehir story. Those stories are always funnier and more compelling than a script when handled properly and Linkletter along with Groucho Marx understood it way before the rest of Television figured it out.
