Spike TV Developing Comedies That Tap into Underachievement

May 4, 2010  •  Post A Comment

Spike TV has unveiled a development slate that looks for comedy in the underachievement that comes with a lousy economy, the Hollywood Reporter reports.

The network has five half-hour shows in development, which feature men looking for how to slack off or wring more out of life, the article says.

Producers range from Denis Leary to Thom Beers. Leary’s "Rebel League," for example, is about a group of has-been hockey players trying to start a hockey league.

"Kings by Night" tracks underachievers who want to start an illegal underground casino.

"From a comedy perspective, rooting for the underdog always works," Spike TV president Kevin Kay said.
