ABC News Uses Six-Year-Old Footage and Tells Viewers it was New

In a report that ran on "20/20" on June 1st, 2010, ABC News used footage from 6 years ago and tried to pass it off as current, according to TVNewser.

Says the article, "ABC News acknowledged the error, telling TVNewser: ‘In the report we had said we watched Daniel Tammet learn the Icelandic language, when in fact Daniel’s trip was taken six years ago. We should have cited the documentary [from which the footage was taken], and made crystal clear when it had been recorded, and we certainly apologize for the errors."

  1. This is what happens when you slash staff, get rid of older workers & hire young cheap workers in their place. I see mistakes everyday on local news that can be attributed to new hires that don’t know the ropes.

  2. More likely is that staff and anyone directly involved knew beforehand it was dated footage. Staff -new hire or not- did what their bosses told them to do, while the bosses crossed their fingers as they tried to “pass it off”. Them’s the ropes.

  3. INTEGRITY! That word is slowly falling apart right before our eyes! It is already down to “integ” and soon it will be completely gone. Such a shame. It was a nice word and it really meant something. I, for one, will miss it! Terribly!

  4. It seems that these comments need to be cleaned out, to much spam here.

  5. Love the blog here. Nice colors. I am definitely staying tuned to this one. Hope to see more.
