Veteran film actor Eric Roberts is returning to his roots in soap operas by joining the cast of CBS’ "The Young and the Restless," reports EW.com’s Hollywood Insider blog.

Roberts, who had a role on NBC’s "Heroes" and Starz’ "Crash," starts taping this week for a July 12 debut, the article says. He’ll play a lawyer working for Adam Wilson, a character who escaped from prison and then made it appear he had died.

Roberts started out in daytime soaps with a role on "Another World" in the 1970s.
