Cartoon Network Banking on TV Success of Web Series with Rob Corddry as a Creepy Clown Doctor

Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim is betting that a Web series featuring Rob Corddry as a doctor who likes to put on creepy clown makeup to cheer up patients in a children’s hospital will translate into television success, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker blog.

If Adult Swim has made a good bet, "Childrens Hospital" will become one of the few Web programs that’s successfully made the switch to television, the article says. The show will debut July 11 and will receive a lead-in from "Family Guy" on the network’s Sunday night block, and it features some familiar faces to TV viewers, such as Henry Winkler and Megan Mullally.

But even if a production has been a hit on the Web, it doesn’t mean that it’ll work on TV, the article says. For instance, "Quarterlife" lasted one episode on NBC, while AtomicWedgieTV.com’s "Secret Girlfriend" had a short run on Comedy Central, the piece points out.
