Date Change in Store for Academy Awards?

Jun 23, 2010  •  Post A Comment

The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ Board of Governors held a meeting Tuesday night in part to consider moving the date of the Academy Awards presentation, reports Deadline.com.

This year’s show was held March 7, and the 2009 event took place on Feb. 22, but the academy is now talking about a January broadcast. The awards ceremony is televised by ABC.

If the academy does go with the January time frame, the Oscars would be in conflict with a series of other award shows, including the Golden Globes–which NBC broadcasts–as well as the SAG and BAFTA awards.

It would be the first time in the history of the awards that they would be held in January. The ceremony has taken place either in February, March or April since the 1930s.

  1. Doesn’t really make sense to go up against the NFL in January. Plus, if done right it is perfect for Sweeps in February.
